This month, Urban Autism Solutions kicked off an exciting new initiative with the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Young Adult Advisory Council. Comprised of five young adults with autism, the Advisory Council seeks to deepen UAS’s commitment to our mission by consciously bringing the lived experiences of young adults with autism and related challenges into the organization’s planning processes and program development.
Meetings of the Advisory Council will be held every two months. These meetings will provide opportunities for Council members to offer feedback and ideas for further developing existing UAS programs, as well as brainstorming and envisioning future possibilities. The first meeting, held on September 20th, was a rich discussion informed by the wisdom and insights of these young adults and their passion for creating opportunities and community for members of the autism community.
The Council members were invited to be part of this new initiative in recognition of their demonstrated leadership skills and productive lives as young adults with autism. We look forward to future meetings and continuing to receive valuable input from the most essential stakeholders in our mission.
